IFEMA MADRID has officially awarded the construction work to the joint venture formed by ACCIONA and Eiffage Construction, which will be in charge of building the new building from this April onwards.

Madrid’s future Formula 1 circuit, known as MADRING, is beginning to take shape. IFEMA MADRID has officially awarded the construction works to the joint venture formed by ACCIONA (60%) and Eiffage Construcción (40%), which will be responsible for building the track set to make its debut on the F1 World Championship calendar in 2026.

The works, initially tendered with a base budget of €111 million, have been awarded to the aforementioned joint venture for €83.2 million. The contract includes not only the construction of the circuit, but also the installation and subsequent dismantling of temporary structures, as well as the restoration of public roads to their original state following each edition of the Grand Prix.

Construction will begin immediately, this April, and is expected to be completed by May 2026.

A modern, top-tier circuit

The new circuit, designed in accordance with FIA Grade 1 homologation standards, will have a total length of 5,400 metres—4,100 metres of which will run through IFEMA MADRID’s grounds, with the remaining 1,300 metres along public roads. This layout is intended to make the most of the existing infrastructure while minimising the impact on the fairground’s day-to-day operations and local traffic.

Sustainable construction

Sustainability will be a cornerstone of the project. The joint venture will use recycled materials and environmentally friendly construction methods, such as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil), a renewable biofuel derived from plant waste that reduces CO₂ emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional fuels. Renewable electricity will also be used to power the construction facilities.

Around 60% of the materials moved during the works will be reused on-site, with the remaining 40% stored for use in future projects. In addition, approximately 700,000 tonnes of excavated earth are expected to be repurposed during the construction process.

Proven expertise

ACCIONA, a global leader in sustainable solutions with a presence in over 40 countries, brings prior experience with similar projects, including the Motorland Aragón circuit in Alcañiz (Teruel), which hosts top-level motor racing events; and the Nokian Tyres Test Centre in Santa Cruz de la Zarza (Toledo), developed for the leading Scandinavian tyre manufacturer.

Eiffage Construcción, meanwhile, has been active in Spain for over 50 years and boasts a strong national presence in the production and supply of aggregates, concrete, and bituminous mixtures. It operates the most advanced and sustainable asphalt plant in the country, located just 12 kilometres from MADRING. The company also has experience in the sports sector, having carried out the resurfacing of the Jerez circuit for the 2009 MotoGP Grand Prix, and the surfacing of Spain’s third-largest circuit in Carmona (Seville).

With this agreement, Madrid takes a decisive step towards its Formula 1 debut, committing to a modern, sustainable infrastructure with the ambition of becoming a global benchmark.
